SUMMARY:Accredited Drum Birthing Teachers Course 2026
DESCRIPTION:Weekend 1: 6th – 8th March 2026Weekend 2: 13th March – 15th March 2026 \nOver six days two weekends 1pm Fridays to Sunday evenings. \nTaking only a small group of four\, we will cover all you need to know to teach this amazing craft. The course will be held over two weekends\, starting at 1pm Friday each weekend and finishing on the Sunday evening at no fixed time due to the nature of the course. \nCovering the practicalities of drum birthing\, ceremony and holding space through to thinking on your feet in the moment when things go wrong. We will help build your confidence ahead of anything that may happen as well as covering the behind-the-scenes practicalities such as finding reputable suppliers. \nThroughout the weekends there will be practical and written tests to help you demonstrate what you have learnt. \nBy the end of the course\, you will have birthed four drums – a 10” Deer\, 12” Horse\, 14” Horse and a 16” Deer – all on Ash hoops\, along with a beater which will be yours to take home. \nUpon completing the course\, participants will receive an accredited certificate where full attendance and competence has been reached. \nRequirementsWe ask that you have birthed at least two drums\, one with us at Caer Corhrain\, and at least another with ourselves or another drum maker or by yourself. This is to ensure you have a basic knowledge of how to birth a drum. \nYou know and have experience of shamanic journeying\, as this is an important aspect of the drum birthing process. If you don’t have this experience then there may be an opportunity to learn it with us prior to doing the course. \nAs part of the application\, please email us with details of your experience with birthing drums\, and shamanic journeying\, whether you have completed the Shamanic Pathways course with us or not and why you would like to take part as well as any other relevant experience. We would also ask you to send photos of drums that you have birthed yourself. \nThere is a maximum of four places available and we will only be able to run the course with four people. \nFee£995 per person with a 50% deposit to secure your space. The deposit is non-refundable or transferable. I’m eager to share what I have learnt along the way. \nOriginally Hind Hart drums was created in 2003 and ran till 2011\, when with Jonathan Weekes we setup Heron Drums. After deciding I wanted to take the drum birthing workshops on a smaller scale again\, I decided to put CC into our drums and be known as Caer Corhrain Drums. \nDuring the summer of 2023 I was asked if I would run a teacher training course in Drum Birthing. We then successfully completed the first course in January 2024 which I hope was the first of many courses to come. I’m looking forward to sharing all that I have learnt over the years.<3 \nWendy RuddickI birthed my first drum in 2016 and absolutely loved it and have birthed many more since under the guidance of Lynn. Chants\, sound\, laughter\, and shared presence will naturally weave through the evening as we honour this turning of the Wheel and welcome the season ahead. \nAll our events are led by experienced facilitators. To birth your own drum is a deeply rewarding experience\, as you weave your love\, intent\, and energy into its creation. \nEach drum is made in the traditional way\, with lacing cut from the same hide\, keeping the spirit of the animal within the drum. \nDuring this full-day workshop\, you will be guided through the entire process of drum making: cutting both the hide and lacing\, punching the holes\, and honouring the spirits of the animal and the tree. To birth your own drum is a deeply rewarding experience\, as you weave your love\, intent\, and energy into its creation. \nEach drum is made in the traditional way\, with lacing cut from the same hide\, keeping the spirit of the animal within the drum. \nDuring this full-day workshop\, you will be guided through the entire process of drum making: cutting both the hide and lacing\, punching the holes\, and honouring the spirits of the animal and the tree. DESCRIPTION:Introduction to Reading Runes\nLimited to only six people\n \nThis course is designed for people who want to learn and understand about the Runes and how to read them for personal use. It includes background as to their historical and mythological origins\, how they have been used previously and how they can be used today. A workbook will be included to work through throughout the course.\nA background to each Rune’s representation will be explained\, exploring how this can be used to interpret its meaning. Several different ways of reading and working with the Runes will also be covered.\n• Runic Meditation: We start with a meditation to connect with the runes • History of the Runes: Where they came from and an introduction to the people who used them.• Norse Mythology behind the Runes: Odin and the Gods of the Aesir and Vanir; Yggdrasil and the Norns. Norse beliefs and how and why they relate to the Runes and their meanings. • The meanings of the runes: We will explore each rune individually focusing on what it represents and how that representation can be used for interpretation and meaning.• Everyday uses: Drawing and using individual runes for daily guidance and meditation.• Questioning the Runes: Ways to question the runes and how to use their answers.• Basic Rune spreads: Traditional and modern spreads using from 3 to 9 runes drawn individually and placed.• Casting Runes: Dropping all the Runes for unique readings based on how they fall; different ways of choosing which runes to interpret.• Introduction to Bind Runes: Using concatenated Rune symbols for amulets and talismans and some of their potential uses.• Looking after your Runes: How to connect with the runes\, protection and how to keep them energised.• Practical session: Reading with help and guidance as to how to interpret the readings.\n \n \n \n \nOne day course we will to learn how to read runes and Norse mythology.\nI have been working with runes for over 30 years and started teaching them because quite simply people kept asking me to. I believe that they are part of our heritage\, have been much maligned over the centuries and I am always happy to help anybody who is interested in learning more.\nI believe that to understand the runes you need to understand something of the people that used them and the mythology being them\, which is why this course is designed as it is. It is not enough to use a sheet or a book for reference and say ‘This Rune means Money\, This rune means love that rune means strength and so on’. This does not give them any context and makes remembering and interpreting them more difficult.\nEach rune is related to something specific. Maybe a god\, a tree\, the moon\, or something elemental such as fire or ice. By understanding not only what the meaning is\, but what these things meant in the past\, and the mythology associated it gives context to the meanings and reinforces them.\nEach course begins with a runic meditation\, and the morning is spent learning about the history of the runes and Norse mythology including how they believe the universe was formed\, Ragnarok and various tales and sagas. These are associated to specific runes as we learn to begin reinforcing the roots of their meaning.\nThe afternoon continues with more stories and the learning of any runes not already covered. We then have a practical session to learn different ways of using the runes for guidance and readings. This is followed by other ways to use and recognise runes in everyday life\, caring for your runes\n \n \n \nAbout Simon (SighPea):I have been into the runes since I was 9 when I was studying the Vikings at school and reading the Hobbit at home and they seemed to be popping up everywhere. They just spoke to me\, I couldn’t explain it at the time. At that point I was mainly just using the runes as an alphabet – it wasn’t until my late teens that I started really working with\, reading and making runes. Nearly 30 years on and they are still with me stronger than ever. I started teaching a few years ago\, mainly because I kept getting asked to by people wanting to learn. It suits me as I do have a passion for them and want people to understand what they are as I feel they are part of our heritage that got lost and misunderstood along the way.\nLots of people seem to have rune sets at the moment either because they were gifts or they thought they’d give them a go as they are ‘something different’. But what tends to happen is they try it a couple of times\, find they are just a just a hard to remember set of funny symbols with unrelated meanings and forget about them.\nTo me it is impossible to learn the runes without understanding the symbols behind each rune\, about their history and background and the mythology associated with them. Once people learn in this way it makes a lot more sense and they are easier to remember. The symbols themselves don’t just mean love\, strength\, money etc. They relate to animals\, trees\, elementals\, gods etc and the meanings come from them. Similar to the constellations there are also ways to remember them by how they look.\nSo for example the rune Urahz relates to a bull (Auroch). By picturing this and thinking of the wild untamed auroch and its strength and power\, and then remembering that the bull was also a working animal in Viking times\, pulling ploughs\, driving mill stones etc you get an image of that strength and power and also how it can also be harnessed. I find this imagery helps people understand them better than just saying “this symbol means strength”.\nSimilarly if a rune relates to a particular god it helps to understand the personality\, characteristics and stories associated to that god. For that reason the courses intertwine the mythology and stories of the gods along with the runes and their meanings.Courses are limited to 6 people maximum so as to keep them more intimate and allow more individual attention. From the covering of the frame and selecting the sacred rocks; then preparing and lighting of the fire. The rocks are heated in the fire so that their ancient wisdom and healing can be released. Having facilitated many lodges over the years\, we will lead you through this most healing and beautiful ceremony with love and integrity.\n \nWild Woman Is Calling\nOh! the wild primal woman is bursting with the need of escape\, escape from the gentleness and the sweetness into the wild and untamed part of who she really is \, to meet again that wild woman who is not restrained by conformity or the bonds that only touch the surface of her realness and the authenticity of who she really is\, the sheer power of naked painted woman dancing wildly and free around the fire\, looking deeply into the flames that dance with her\, revealing the fire spirits reaching out to meet her\, sparks igniting\, passion deeper and deeper. Oh! how she yearns to crawl on the earth again\, to have the earth oozing through her toes\, imbedded deeply in her skin\, in her hair\, and her nails\, to sit in the dark of the mother’s womb\, feeling the safety of her membrane\, her cells\, the boundary keeping them safe within. Feeling the strength of her bones that encase her\, bathed in her fragrance off cool damp earth\, mixed with the aroma plant spirits among the lingering smell of wood smoke. Held within her body\, loving\, holding and supporting. Sweat and tears running into the earth\, hot burning heat\, a oneness\, the void that fills and captures every essence\, of every sense\, a journey into the world of all worlds\, present\, yet not present\, walking between the worlds that intertwine. Oh! to crawl out on all fours into the welcoming arms of rebirth embracing rebirth\, seeing all with real eyes\, at one with the realness\, releasing the scream from within that will release them\, the primal scream of the wild woman with sword and shield held high\, banishes all that does not serve her.
